Shower seats and grab rails, fitted
Small jobs that prevent falls. A wall-mounted shower seat and properly fixed grab rails, fitted from €80. Often the first step while a walk-in shower is being planned.
When are rails and a seat enough?
If the person can still step into the shower but is unsteady, a seat and two or three rails may be all that is needed. They are also a sensible stopgap: fitted now, while a bath to shower conversion or a grant application is in progress.
Why not a suction rail or a freestanding shower chair?
Suction rails can let go without warning and should not take a person's full weight. A freestanding shower chair helps, but it can slide on a wet tray. A rail or seat screwed into a solid wall or a reinforced panel is fixed to carry weight.
What we fit
- Straight and angled grab rails beside the shower, bath and toilet
- Fold-down wall-mounted shower seats, with or without legs
- Drop-down rails beside the toilet
- Key safes, so carers and family can get in
Where should grab rails go?
Where the hand naturally reaches at the moment of risk: stepping in, sitting down, standing up. An occupational therapist will mark exact positions. If there is no report, we set the heights with the person standing in the room.
Is there a grant for grab rails?
Yes. Grab rails are named under the Mobility Aids Grant. For a small job many families simply pay, because the grant process takes longer than the work.

Your questions answered
Can grab rails be fitted to a tiled wall?
Yes. We drill through the tile into the wall behind and use fixings suited to that wall. Hollow plasterboard walls may need a backing board first.
What height should a shower seat be?
Around the height of a dining chair, so the person can sit and stand with their feet flat. We set it for the person who will use it.
Do you supply the seat and rails?
Yes, supplied and fitted. If the hospital or an occupational therapist has already given you equipment, we can fit that instead.
